THERMIsmooth face is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure for skin laxity, wrinkle improvement and smoothing. The THERMI system uses gentle temperature controlled radio frequency energy to stimulate collagen, diminish skin laxity and tighten tissue.

It does not involve lasers, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, injections or hormones. We perform the treatment in our office and it does not require anesthesia.

Do I need the THERMIsmooth face treatment?

Men and women consider the THERMIsmooth face treatment to address common signs of aging, such as:

  • Wrinkles on the forehead
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Lines or skin laxity around the lips
  • Loose skin on the lower face, jowls or chin

It is an effective option for people who want to avoid injections or cosmetic surgery. It is a gentle procedure and does not require downtime. To discuss if the procedure will address your specific concerns, call to schedule a consultation.

Who can’t have this treatment?

It’s not the right time for the THERMIsmooth face procedure if you

  • are pregnant
  • had recent facial surgery and are still healing

  • had recent dental surgery and are still healing

  • have wounded or infected skin in the treatment area

Talk with the doctor about when to schedule the procedure after your delivery, or health issue resolves.

You are not a candidate for the THERMIsmooth face procedure if you have

  • nerve insensitivity to heat anywhere in the treatment area

  • an implantable device such as a pacemaker, imbedded defibrillator, or Cochlear ear implant

What happens during the procedure?

During the facial treatment, you recline on your back. The provider uses a small handheld wand to gently warm facial tissue in the treatment area. The designated facial zone (forehead, eye, cheek, or lips and chin) is treated with a sweeping and/or circular motion. The device is a thermistor-regulated hand piece. It is a little bit thicker and longer than a crayon, and the end that touches your face is flat.

How does the procedure feel?

During the facial procedure, you’ll feel the application of a water-based gel/lubricant. You’ll feel the movement of, and warmth and gentle pressure from, the small handheld device which applies temperature controlled radiofrequency energy to tissue. The device becomes warmer as the procedure progresses, with the provider regularly checking your comfort level. Therapeutic benefits result when the device reaches a temperature above our normal body temperature.

Patients sometimes feel an occasional subtle electric pinch, like the static shock you might feel when touching something after dragging your feet across carpeting. Because the handheld device is rigid, some patients say it feels like a gentle small-stone massage.

How long is the procedure?

Your facial treatment is about 30 minutes per session per facial zone. A complete course of therapy consists of 4 to 6 treatments, scheduled 2 to 3 weeks apart. Tightening is usually visible immediately after the first treatment, but the full outcome takes several weeks to fully manifest.

Does the procedure have side effects?

While the THERMIsmooth facial treatment is non-surgical, all procedures involve some risk. You may experience mild discomfort in the treatment area during the procedure. Mild swelling and redness may occur and typically resolves within 2 to 24 hours. You can resume your normal physical activities after treatment unless directed otherwise by the physician.

How long do benefits last?

After a complete course of therapy (4 to 6 sessions approximately 2 to 3 weeks apart), most people enjoy the full benefits for 9 to 12 months. One or more maintenance sessions are recommended about a year later and thereafter to maintain maximum benefit.

How much does it cost?

The fee for your initial THERMIsmooth face consultation is $75. An initial consultation is required to determine if the procedure is right for you. Initial consultations are not conducted over the phone.

The cost for one 30-minute THERMIsmooth face session is $300. The consultation fee will be credited toward your procedure.

We recommend a complete course of therapy consisting of at least 4 treatments, scheduled 2 to 3 weeks apart. Because we want you to have the best results possible, we offer the 4 treatment course of therapy for $900 (you save $300).

How do I prepare for my procedure?

Shave or wax any hair in the treatment area a day or two before your treatment. Removing hair allows the hand piece of the THERMI device to make best contact with your skin. Observing the required time between hair removal and treatment allows you to feel most comfortable during the procedure.

Remove all makeup from the face including lotions. Remove all jewelry.

Do not use any anesthetic (local, oral or systemic) prior to or during the treatment.

Drink an additional 3 to 4 glasses of water the day before and the day of your appointment.
Well hydrated tissue responds most favorably to the THERMI treatment. We recommend you set a reminder on your calendar, letting you know when it’s time to shave or wax as needed prior to treatment, and time to start drinking more water.

What do I do after my procedure?

Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Avoid hot water until any pink has subsided. Use a gentle moisturizer and sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater. Drink an additional 3 to 4 glasses of water. Drinking additional water is recommended because well hydrated tissue responds most favorably to the THERMI treatment. Resume your normal physical activities unless directed otherwise by the physician.

What if I have more questions?

Schedule a consultation to learn if the THERMIsmooth face treatment is right for you. Meet with the physician for an evaluation, and to discuss your health history and concerns.
